Default 1999 Monte Carlo LS

Since this is my first post, I would just like to say hello to all of you on this forum.

What this thread is about is my possible new car, a 1999 Monte Carlo LS. I do not own it but am thinking about purchasing one. Before i do, i have a few questions about it.

The main question I have is, how can i get this LS to have equal performance compared to the Z34 model? Can this be done fairly cheaply, and what should I look into? Also, any drawbacks to the car or things I should look at before purchasing it?

Thank you for looking and all help is appreciated.

hey, welcome to the site

does your car have the 3.1l or the 3.4l???

couple things you could look into would be dual exhaust and a cold air intake

so i would probably say dual exhaust(including high flow cat) and a cold air intake...i dont think there's a heck of a lot of difference between the 3.1 and the 3.4

Yes, it does have the 3.1 in it. I looked around on this site and everyone has suugested a cold air intake and new exhaust. I know this will not cost a whole lot of money, but how much a performance gain can I expect?

Wiz
There is a big differance between the two engines.
3.4L is double over head cam
3.1L is push rod valves
Thats just starters

As for horse power
3.1L is a slush pupper engine (I have one). Great on gas.
I have always wanted to put dual exhaust on it but never have gotten around to it.
I am not one into doing to many mods on my cars.
Heck be lucky most of the time if I even do stero up grades. But that is me, Have way to much other things to spend my money on.

to get the same preformance or better you would be better off gettign the Z34.

Now at this same time you can also get the smaller one and do stuff to it over time with the same money you MIGHT have somthing that coudl take the stok or slightly built version of the 3.4

But that is something that is entierly up to you as far as how it gets there

you are looking at trying to get 40 hp to increase the 3100... they will be pretty dificult. There are mods available to increase the horse power, but you are talking thousands of dollars to have it match the perfromance of a Z34. You best, and probably cheapest would be a motor swap believe it or not.
