Default 1998 MC speedo dont work

I bought my son a 1998 MC Z34 with a very light engine fire. (Did not even bubble the hood paint.) The quick connect fuel inj. line leaked. Anyhow, after replacing the wiring harness it runs perfect and is all good. Only thing is the speedo does not work. Is the speed sensor in the trans or wheel sensor?

IIRC it is a 2 wire connector on the pass side of the trans on the top near the axel shaft.

Thanks,
OK, here is where I stand. I replaced the vehicle speed sensor, no joy. So, I took it to a shop that had a scan tool that showed live vehicle data such as engine RPM, Temp, etc. It also showed vehicle speed. We jacked up the front right wheel and put it in gear. It showed vehicle speed. So, the computer is getting vehicle speed. Next my son has a current 1999 Monte Carlo he drives. We swapped the cluster out of his to this car and same thing. Is there maybe a specific fuse or something people do to these cars to disable the Speedo/ odometer to slow down mileage build up that I can check for?
