100K miles........things going bad left and right
I bought my 02 Monte last June with 93K miles on it. Prior to buying it, I read reviews and some people we saying at 100K their car fell apart. Since buying mine, here is the list of things that has needed replacing. Monte just turned over 100K on a trip to Florida
Fuel Pressure regulator
both control arms (ball joints)
driver side tie rod end
Both front hub bearings
Now the drivers side window regulator has broke and the battery is dying....sheesh
Just a rant. Love my Monte, but I hope he don't turn into a money pit.

well you cant control how the person before you took care of the car, im sure if the person took care of it the way you would these things might need replacing later on, but with all cars sooner or later things will go just gotta do prevent maintenance and things will be fine

Hi Vandonky,
I hope you feel better after getting that off your chest
Yes, sadly a Monte or any vehicle that is over 12+ years old will need care & replacement parts.
Like Owen stated, previously care is important, but that now is the past.
Parts wear out in time & I wish they didn't, but they do.
Many member's have Monte's that have over 200K, 250K miles with no major problems, but had to replace normal wear & tear parts.
I hope that you & your Monte are just having a bad streak & that you will be able to take care of your present issues.
Wish you the best of Luck on having a good running Monte Carlo with no major issues.
Also, wish you & yours a super Holiday season...
Just tell your friends & family you had to use your $'s to get gifts for your Monte Carlo

Thanks space and owens91.
Happy Holidays to both of you and your families.......and to the entire MC crew
My Monte was a 1 owner, elderly couple car with some service history. I don't suspect it was driven hard. Thankfully it is easy to work on and parts are cheap.
I know my Monte will be OK.....I'm hoping to find a leather interior for it.

Best words ever! There is an "art" to shopping for used cars, to not just take the word of the seller that they took care of it, but the "feel" it out. And if they seller had a shop do the work, the question becomes how well did the shop do on the workmanship. And what quality were the parts? There is a difference sometimes from cheap parts to expensive parts in the quality. Such as with front wheel hub assemblies, I go Timken (middle of the road cost, but I have yet to replace one, yet the cheapies burned me right out of warranty).
Plus, how did the previous owner drive the car.
I'll tell you, I can drive my GM's hard, but I do my own wrench work and keep the maintenance up to speed. For the most part, my GM's (Monte, Impala, Grand Ams) treat me well.
Get all the bad things squared up and odds are the car will treat you right.

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear things are amiss currently.. But once ythese things are taken care of youll get many years of enjoyment out of your Monte Carlo..
For instance...
I bought mine brand new...
Every year of its current life it gets regularly maintained... lubes , oil changes brakes etc etc...
170,000 miles on it currently.. the only real "hard" art I have had to put on it has been a right side outer tierod..
These Vehicles in particular...
Are very reliable with regular Maintenance..
Unfortunately..
The only real weakness on these vehicles is generally the transmission..However, I have put just 1 in mine (Rebuild) and that was right around 98,000 miles...
Keep us posted and thanks for joining the MCF Family!
I se you have already received a warm welcome along with some excellent info!

I've had to do a little more than my share of replacement parts.
I'll probably turn over 150K miles on my Florida trip I'm planning for next week.
The biggest one was the tranny rebuild was at about 125K miles. He said mine lasted longer than most for an 06 SS
I take good care of it but I have been known to drive hard or long sometimes.
Changed oil yesterday and I'm ready for Florida, leaving after Christmas.
It's got a whine in the new steering pump, but that's not hurting anything.
And if/when something else breaks, I'll fix it and keep going
The short list;
Water pump
Wheel bearings. Some twice
Struts
Brakes twice
Tranny with new rad and external cooler
Tie rods
Sensors MAF, MAP, Oil switch
Steering rack
Steering pump
And I'm sure I forgot some
Plus the rear fenders are rusting out

But once you get these little things fixed it should be a sound car again. Good luck!! Merry Christmas.
