This may sound like a dumb question but what does a shift kit do exactly? How hard is it to install and do you gain any mpg from it or performance? Ive been thinking of getting one of these kits .

It's a set of spacers that give your transmission firmer/quicker shifts

Check out this thread about the install: Shift kit install, very detailed (56K go watch a movie) - LS1TECH

I have not... I had to replace my transmission so that put me in the hole. I need to save up and get a few other things fixed.

By the spring, I hope to be ready to do so.

How is yours running?

Nice try lol.

BTW - Why do you need a spring....? You bought a complete shift kit, it should have everything you need....

Well I know you do excellent work!

I ordered from zzp but I did not see the spring. All I saw was bushings with instructions and the filter. I'll double check after I get out of class. Does their kit come with it?

I am sure someone is waiting to tell me should of ordered from triple edge performance.

As I suspected no spring. I do have the part number if needed/required too.

What is your opinion? I am looking to clean it up not break my tires off.

I know that this may rattle a few cages but should I add some Lucas Conditioner/fix? I do have almost 137,xxx on it.

Thanks.

I have not messed with a shift kit. I would suspect if you got everything the shift kit was supposed to include, you should be fine. I suspect the spring that was recommended may be an added extra. If I were you, I'd research why the spring was recommended, what it's purpose is and decide then to get it or not.

As for the Lucas, never used the product, couldn't tell you. But at 137,xxx I hope this is not the first time the trans pan has been dropped for a fluid/filter change. I tend to pan drop and fluid/filter change every 100,000 miles or sooner. Any story I've heard of people who had a trans go bad after a fluid change was one of two scenarios (or a combo):
1 - They got a fluid flush (not a filter/fluid change, old filter left in the trans).
2 - They did a flush or pan drop way late (way past a recommended interval or after a problem began anyways).

@ The_Maniac

I saw that (as part of a D-I-Y shift kit, not a prepackaged shift kit bought from a place like ZZP or WBody store). Since the kit you got did not include the spring, i have not done research as to pro's or con's to using the ZZP kit as it was sent from ZZP vs adding the spring.

That's all.... I don't know if the spacers from the ZZP kit cause a different effect then the ones from the GP forum.
