zzp ported and gasket matched lim? with pics 07/29/2013
so I got my ported and gasket matched lim from zzp today and I read a post on here that states "DO NOT gasket match the LIM unless you do the same with the heads!! Otherwise you end up with a nasty step in the air flow, not good"
havent heard anyone having problems with ported lims that are gasket matched...someone have any input on this?

It really all depends on how off the LIM is compared to the heads. if both the heads and LIM line up and are just slightly smaller then the gaskets then i can see where just porting the LIM could cause a step that would actually increase air resistance. but with the variation of the ports on LIM and heads chances are the diff between the gasket and each side of the head or LIM prob wont be the same. So in reality I'd say port match. heck if your good with a dremal and can put shop towels to block the port and the oil valley you can just gasket match the heads while you have the LIM off. I did this with my DOHC but it was fast cause they had Al heads. before you attempt any porting read lots about it and make sure you tape off any area you do not want to port.

Not sure which engine you"re working with, but I know the L36 will have a HUGE step if you gasket match the LIM. I port matched mine (was actually pretty easy). Once I get my we site back online, I can share a link.
Personally, I would not gasket match unless you do the same to the heads. Other wise, you are removing far more material then you need to, no gain and the potential to loose a gain by not having good air flow.

I see they "dimed" off the coolant ports. On my L36 one, I plugged them with stainless plugs.
Just be careful. If those ports are truly gasket matched and NOT port matched, you will have a potential air flow issue.
