Yea, turbo is the way to go these days. I put a lot of money into building mine and I cant even run with stock f bodys. If I had a turbo though.

I feel like the turbo is going to be WAY to expensive for what I want though. Don't get me wrong, if I had the $2500, I'd spend it on the Z3 without even batting an eye! I've wanted a turbocharged car for.. wow.. probably close to a year now! The sound, the speed, the prestige. Turbo, in my mind, is the way to go. However, I don't have the money to spend on a turbo. Quick question: Is the ZZP Z3 Turbo Kit the most economical turbo kit on the market for the 3800 series 2?

As far as the cheaper turbo, remember that you get what you pay for, and in when it comes to turbos the cheaper the kit, the more problematic it is. The cartuning kit isn't bad, but customer support is horrible. I hear a lot of good things from the Z3, but the Z7 is way better(although more money).

Regardless of which kit you decide to go with, you're still going to dish out some green upgrading your transmission. And be prepared to pay a little extra for stronger trans parts, and for your mechanic to install them.

Your best bet is to get used parts whenever you can from a trusted source, but the turbo itself get it new. I was lucky enough to get a used cartuning kit with IC for 700, although the turbo was shot. Another 700 got me a new turbo and all I had to do was rebuild the transmission. I kind of went all out with an engine and trans rebuild but you can save money there if your engine's rings are holding compression and there isn't any manifold leaks, but I would still recommend changing the intake manifold gaskets and checking for any wear signs in the short block. But definitely rebuild your trans, you'll thank yourself you did.

before you buy a kit, have a power goal in mind. turbo's will ultimately net you more power and an easier install, but remember stock trannys wont hold 400+ hp forever. personally, if i were to have went turbo, i'd figure another $1500 for a tranny and save myself some peace of mind.

i went with the ssm90 kit and i loved it. after headers and SS ic and a nice tune, i was real close to 300 WHP and happy. that was my goal

miss my monte already
