Yet another problem with my Monte
I bought my 2003 Monte carlo 1 1/2 years ago and man the people at the repair shop know me too well. My car is in there at least once every 3 months with something major to do on it. Thankfully I've had an extended warranty until july this year. That cost me $1900 when I bought the car, so far they have paid over $8,000 in repairs (car only cost $5500)
I'm having yet another problem that I'd rather fix myself since my deductible is kind of high so my problem started last night my car dies while I was at a stop light. Since then I've drove it a few times and once every couple minutes if I'm stopped or parked, my RPM will jump to 3,000 for a split second then go back down around 1,000...then jump again and go back down. It shifts hard sometimes so I thought I needed tranny fluid but not the case, I did however need oil so I added 2 quarts (it was really low) now my dipstick says the level it wayyyyy over but before I added oil it was about a half inch on dipstick.
I just don't know what to do anymore, when my warranty is up I'm screwed because this car has been nothing but a money pit. BTW the $8,000 was head gaskets, water pump, alternator, like 15 seals and gaskets, oil pan, starter, hub, labor cost, the list goes on

When my moms 02 impala ls did the stalling, sometimes it bogged if you tried to kick it down, and the rpms jumped on her it was a bad maf. As for the transmission its probably the pressure control solenoid in the transmission, the original ones failed and the car would shift harshly. As for the oil I would get it changed or get the extra out of the engine, having to much is just as bad as not having enough. On my old car if I needed oil I would start out with a half a quart and go from there to avoid that.
