Who's had tranny problems on their Monte?
I bought my Monte with no drivetrain. Bought a trans at a swap meet for 300. Needless to say 1st gear was binding. So my buddy's brother had one for sale for $25 I could not believe it. 3 hours later I had a working transmission installed. No problems yet...
To be fair my Monte is a 87 and th350's are cheap and easy to install.LOL not like those later model cars you guys are having problems with.

My 06 has 150,000 miles on the original tranny. It started to slip a little once is a while at around 130-135K...but I got a custom tune that concentrated a lot on the tranny(line pressure and shift points, etc) and since the tune its slipped like once or twice in almost 13K. It shifts great otherwise.
I honestly don't know how long this tranny will hold out. I thought I would have needed a rebuild by now, knowing how the 4T65-E tends to be...but knock on wood, its still ticking.

Had you changed/flushed the tranny fluid at all before it failed? If so, at what mileage did you do it?
i don't know if this is common; but ever since i got it, there is a delay in shifting in all gears. its not a slipping issue, its more of a delay in shift. Waiting for my financial aide to change ALL fluids in my Monte
Although these transmission shops are always saying - "Diagnosis is free and most people don't need a new transmission", I've had issues with four transmissions, and all four ended up replaced.
Get quotes before you even bring the car in. I was able to get a rebuilt trans for my Lumina installed with new torque converter and a 2 year warranty for $1,672 (including tax). That's because I asked for prices beforehand. If you don't already have a quoted price on a new tranny and the shop has your car on the rack and your transmission is out and in pieces, they've now got you by the b*lls, and can pretty much charge you whatever they want.

The last transmission I had installed was from American Transmission on Beach Blvd. I got them to match a price I got from either Cottman or Aamco, and they I got a two year warranty. It's shifting fine now. Like I said though, it seems like a new transmission is always recommended when they take em out - especially if the car's got high miles on it, like mine.
