Default what tranny does my car have

Ok so i got 97 monte carlo z34, i did do a lot of research on it and I have heard a lot of back and forth stuff. Can some please give me the straight answer, does this year of the 5th gen come with the 4t65-e or the 4t60-e tranny. I ask cause I got some plans for her; I plan to have it tuned for squirting more fuel into the engine and delaying the spark to get her up to, or close to, the 275hp bench mark that was originally intended for the car. In addition, adding a cool air intake system or modifying the stock one. I know this is a lot of hp and I know for a fact the 4t60-e cannot handle this but I believe the 4t65-e can.

Neither transmission can handle much power, they are both pretty crappy.

You will not get it anywhere near the 275hp.

In 97 they made the switch to the 4t65e for the Z34.

x2

The problem with the LQ1 is that it has a tiny aftermarket. However, you should check out this link: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/473859...et-monte-carlo However, even with all of his mods, I'm not sure if he was making 275hp. He's a member on MCF, and he's pretty much the guy to ask about when it comes to LQ1's.

If you want to make hp with an LQ1, you need to install a turbo. It would have to be completely custom, but in the end you could easily make well over 400hp. I've seen 325+whp turbo LQ1 Monte's before (which is around 400hp at the crank).

Don't get discouraged by all of this. Just think of it as a challange. That's the way I looked at my Monte and everyone laughed until I made over 300whp. Then everyone thought it was cool, lol.
