what can i do to get more hp
i have bout 1200 to spend i was thinking of goodbye to resinator and u-bend. add some flowmaster 40's, i already have the cai from k&n on. how can i get more hp is this a good start? and what can i do with o2 sensor?
the exhuast shop (if you find one willing to do this) can cut the ubend, weld in a piece of pipe with ahole drilled in somewhat to the side, and put the O2 sensor there. this shoduln't cost you anywehre close to $1200. i'd go to the other sections of the forum... larger throttle body, shift kit, maybe a suspension or brake upgrade with that kind of money.
Hey Cowboy:
Can I go to a Junk yard and pull a Throttle Body out of a boneyard GM Car and just replace it with the Throttle Body that in the car or do I need Rubber Boots and a different Boot coming out of the Ait Cleaner; too.
It seems like that would be a pretty simple, little after-dinner project that wouldn't take too much doin' to accomplish in a couple of hours. I'd be willing to try it on my Monte.
How much will a Used Throttle Body set me back and what size should I try to acquire for my Monte Carlo?

As for what to do with the O2 sensor, hopefully this pic will give you an idea.
You can see the O2 sensor location on the U-bend delete. It's as simple as welding on a captive nut to hold the sensor.

Is it supercharged or NA?
For $1200, you should be able to get a nice performance boost out of it.
An aftermarket downpipe (which has a ubend delete, and bigger pipe throughought) will help a lot. I doubt you'll see much if any power gain from replacing stuff behind that in the exhaust.
For that kinda money, I would probably look at doing some modded 1.9:1 rockers.I can't see that costing more than $500 altogether, and should give you an easy 15-20 whp while keeping the car reliable and streetable.
An aftermarket tuned pcm would help a bit and change how the car feels and shouldn't cost a whole lot.
Assuming you have an L67 (I honestly don't know if all 04 SS's had L67s or if you could get an L36), you could do a different factory throttle body. What you'd want to look for is either an LS1 or a Northstar throttle body (make sure its a late 90s if you go the N* route- the older ones are different).
Then you can get an adaptor for either from ZZP to bolt it up.
A ported supercharger would also add some nice power for the money at a basic bolt on level.

it is possible to have an L36 in an 14. only about 10% of the monte's that rolled off that year were supercharged.
in 05, all SS' were supercharged... teh non supercharged became the LTZ.
if you do have the supercharged L67, i would recommend a pulley swap for much cheaper than i would pulling the whole supercharger off.

Downpipe, catback, intake, pcm, supercharge pulley should give you a pretty decent power gain. Check out zzperformance.com they have some good parts and from what I've heard they are good at what they do.
