Transmission banging noise?

Transmission banging noise?
I only noticed this a couple times, thought it might have been something I drove over on the road, but I noticed once in a while that when I slow right down and go again I let it rev a little bit and its like the transmission makes this muffled bang into gear, never noticed any problems and its not effecting me yet, but is this a serious problem? Or is it pretty common for it to sometimes bang into gear lightly when you rev it a little bit?

It's possible that you are just hitting a downshift point in the transmission and it's lagging and then downshifting.
Or it's possible that your shifting solenoid is starting to go.
A good read.

Judging by reading that URL, and what you said, I think it just clanked because I was about to downshift then I took my foot off a little, put it back down again, basically just confusing it. I'm sure that would make it bang once in a while, seeing how it doesn't happen often and I can't really recreate it. Puts my conscience at ease haha, the noise just worried me a little bit.
Just an off topic question, how long do transmissions usually last? How many kms? (under pretty average driving, fast accelerating usually)

Like Mike said, it really depends on how well you maintain the tranny, how you drive it, etc. And sometimes you just get bad luck. I have 230,000 MILES on my trucks original tranny, and it still shifts just fine.
As far as the "banging" thing, does it happen only when your in gear? because if you are already driving it, and go for a down shift, then let up, then put your foot into it again, it IS normal. Like you stated, your confusing it. Its not really very good for the transmission, but I would say you probably don't have a tranny problem....
If it bangs into gear sometimes when you go from park to drive, or reverse to drive, that is because your not giving it enough time to go into drive. It happens to me once in a while, usually when i'm in a hurry, and I reverse, then throw it in drive, and start to accelerate, it will bang into gear. I hate it when it happens, so I usually try and make sure I feel it go into drive before I hit the gas...
