Default Tranny flush

Just finished reading the sticky on here and still have a few questions pertaining to my situation.

1. I've had the car since 56k. Car is nearing 92k miles. 3.8L non supercharged.
2. I haven't changed the fluid since owning it. I do not know whether previous owner changed it at all.
3. Fluid is not burned, color is decent still.
4. 95% of my driving has always been highway trips.
5. Trans isn't giving me any lip, still works like normal. No slippage, no rough shifts, etc

Should I do a complete flush? I have heard if you flush you must do it regularly which I have every intention of doing from here on out.

Should I flush it or just do a quick filter change? What brands are the good stuff to get for anything I might need? Breaking away from my usual MO and will not be cheaping out on something like this.

Care to explain why?

Never done anything transmission related. I'm eager to learn

Definitely, drop the pan change the filter, and refill with Dexron 6.

Typically if you haven't flushed the fluid for the life of the car, there could be build-up in places that are allowing the transmission to work correctly. Flushing it, could dislodge something, or move chunks where they shouldn't be.

A pan drop will replace over half the fluid, and dex6 is much better than dex3 in keeping the transmission cool

This is a cheap upgrade I like. It is a new tranny pan and it has a drain plug, so the next few times you replace your filter and fluid it is not such a sloppy mess removing the fluid as you lower the pan.....

I have heard about the tranny flush thing too, about it making trannys fail. If the fluid is really old replace the 8 qts or so when you do the change with cheap fluid and then run it for a few miles. Then drain it all again and replace with the 8 new quality Dexron VI fluids. This way your swapping out i would bet 75% of the old crappy fluid. See the drain plug pan would work here already. Get a NAPA filter with new gasket.

I think I will get the new pan.

The problem is I don't know if it has been replaced before. It's in good condition, so it may have been. I just don't know for certain. No records on it.

So drop the pan, change filter, and just drop in how much of Dex6? Whats the procedural difference in just changing fluid vs flushing?

Or you can install a drain plug in your OE pan for half the price and buy a 6 pack with the money you save for after the job is done.

I have also seen flushes make trans fail do to loosening debris that gets into critical areas causing failure as chibi stated.

Wait wait back up. I just had an epiphany. I think I vaguely recall having my trans fluid changed about 2 1/2 years ago. It's coming back to me now. The old fluid I think had been mixed with something it wasnt supposed to be (something greenish) by the previous owner. I don't remember if it was flushed. But it was changed.

So considering that... does that change anything?

Nope I still would only do a filter/fluid change.
