Thrasher shift kit install diagnoses
Hi Guys,
I am looking at getting some answers from some of you transmission experts. Last saturday I installed a thrasher shift kit on my 03 monte carlo SS. I did the install myself and paid careful attention to 3 installation guides. I went with the 2nd stage medium shift firmness and made sure to place the pistons in the right spots but noticed that when applying pressure on the 1-2 accumulator it was very firm whereas the 2-3 accumulator was somewhat soft. Anyways, I installed the accumulator housing bolts back with a standard ratchet and socket (no torque wrench, but I made sure they were all tight), and I made sure the metal lines that go into the accumulator were properly seated. (at least as far as I could force them in by hand without bending anything). Because I read that if not properly seated it could cause gears to slip. I took it for a test run and noticed 1-2 shifts firm whereas 3rd is soft and 4th is in between. Its been 2 days I havent driven the car but had it parked outside in the cold for 2 days. On my way home I noticed that 3rd gear wouldnt shift and the RPM's were getting higher. So I stopped the car and tried it again and finally had success. Its been 2 times 3rd gear wouldnt shift and I'm kind of concerned. Anything after that is okay. All gears seem to take a little more time to shift into gear compared to factory, but none the less they do shift. The car has 136,000 km and while I did the shift kit I changed the fluid via pan drop with Dexron 6 and changed the filter. If anyone can shed some light on whether or not this is normal, please put me at ez.
Thanks to all of you for your responses,
Regards
George Z
