I've driven the new Regal 2.4's and they are SLOW SLOW SLOW!
When you smash the pedal to the floor it literally took about 3 seconds for the motor to actually respond, and even then the tires didn't even come close to chirping. it felt like driving an electric car...Seriously.

i just hate it when you hear about ppl starting these awesome builds but then wind up selling them
I think a lot of times, people just get in over their heads. Doing something that custom can lead to serious issues, and a lot of people simply don't have the time/money to be able to do it. I know at least 2-3 L67 swaps in montes that got sold before all the problems were worked out- granted that was back in the day before there was all this information available.

yeah the only reason those tiny 4 cylinders in the 90s hondas are fast is because the cars they are in weight nothing. Putting one of those into a 3500lb car will make it an absolute dog. If you DID want to swap a 4 cylinder in, it would have to be a large displacement 4 cylinder so it would have enough torque to get the car rolling.
Exactly- especially NA, a lot of those engines aren't really putting down a lot of power to the wheels, and even less torque. Figure in our cars weighing at least 50% more, and you're going to have a real turd.

Even if you boosted it- what trans is going to hold that power and that bolts to a honda engine? I'm sure they have transmissions that work in their cars; but put the same power in a much heavier car that can run wider tires- and you're going to be seriously stressing that trans.

My thing with this is- sure the honda engines and turbo ecotec engines make good power- but doesn't it seem kinda silly to lose a big chunk of the performance advantage by putting it in a larger, heavier car? Typically, the hot rod method is to go the other way- put the bigger engine in the smaller car.

there was even a survey in the magazine. and if hot rod could have gotten enough back they would have sent them to chevrolet and there would have been a possibility it could have been a production car
I seriously doubt there was ever any consideration to actually building the thing in quantity. First problem is- what chassis do you build it on? They're not going to custom hand build each one with parts from w and f bodies. They can't really put it on the fbody chassis either- because then what is the difference between the monte and camaro/firebird? You're going to have two cars in the same brand going almost head to head. Plus, they obviously couldn't sell and warranty it as is with all the performance upgrades- so they'd likely detune it, and then it would be the same engine that was in the camaro at the time. I just don't see it being even remotely feasible, or worthwhile to build them.
