ok so the book calls for dropping the crossmember to get this starter out and removing oil filter..... any tricks anyone has came accross installing one to make this faster then the estimated 2.4 hr book time????? anything will help thanks a bunch

Keep checking back & hopefully one of our talented member's can assist, or suggest a faster way...

The book just gives an estimate on repair times, but it also depends on your knowledge + having all the tools /parts needed...+ it helps to have a friend assist.

I've learned it pays 2 do it right the first time, and avoid shortcuts...Hope you have a good garage/lift/jack/and safety stands...

Dropping the cross member is not required to install a starter on my 98 z34. But be warned, you must have very good jackstands so you can get under there and manuever the starter out/in. This really inst to hard of a job if you have a good set of gearwrenches/sockets and basic mechanical knowledge. there was some stuff to be removed, heat shield, dust covers, wiring, but not the cross member.

In short, dropping the crossmember makes dropping the starter easier, but is not neccesary.
