Unhappy small breakdown

So was on ma way home from a date with the miss and I hear a weird noise coming from the car followed by a burning smell. I immediately pulled over and as soon as I did I heard a pop. Looked under the hood and this is what I found

So this should be a simple fix. But how much do the belt run? Gotta fix it tomorrow because places are closed

Default Belt

Its an easy fix! Pick an auto parts store, the belt will run you like $30-$35 tops. (go with a duralast from Autozone if you can) (of if able find or order a Goodyear Gator back belt, they are the best)
Grab a 3/8th inch socket wrench and stick it in the square hole in the tensioner and put some leverage into it to allow you to snake the belt onto all the pulleys.
I just replaced mine yesterday so i know its not too hard.

Good luck!

I'm glad its an easy fix on your cars, the 06/07 with the 5.3 it's impossible to get to the tensioner.
There was a tool made for it, but you can't buy one. So, it was a big job replacing the belt. Ended up losing the tensioner by removing the bolt in the spring, inside the wheel well. then using a jack to squeeze the spring to put it back together.
I was busy that weekend, so I asked my son-in-law to do it. He got-r-done, but I didn't mean to use up his whole weekend.

Since there was a burning smell I would carefully inspect the tensioner and all other components that run off the belt. I'm thinking the tensioner may have seized.

Watch a "You Tube" video and this will let you know what your up against. A visual never hurts. And again, you have to ask yourself why the belt came off, it looks like it is in one piece still. Try and roll all the pulleys by hand and try to feel for any binding or out right seized up components. If the tensioner has burnt rubber on it, that may be a clue as to that being the part that seized up. Best of luck with Jack and getting him back on the road as quickly as possible.

Totally agree! If the belt snapped, then you could attribute it to old belt. But a burning small and the look of that belt sounds like it was being forced over a seized pulley.
