how much does a shift kit end up costing in the end? Can't say i've ever looked into it

Shift kits are pretty cheap if you can do the labor yourself. It's basically just some spring changes.

it is some thing i like to do to my 7th gen i dont have a tune so i am not sure who sells them for the 7th gen 4t65e model 7th gen

ZZP sells their 4T65E shift kit for $40. If you find the parts individually, you could make a kit for less. The work is easy too so don't pay someone to install it.

I have a shift kit in my truck and the shifts are pretty stiff

the transgo kit is around 60$. that is what i put in mine. took about 2 hrs with me knowing nothing about the install so it was pretty easy.
