Arrow Shade-Tree Seeks Assist

Hello All! Been trollin' the Monte forums for a while now, but my recent development has prompted me to finally register and seek some advice.

I consider myself a fairly competent shade tree, But this one has thrown me for a loop. Pic to follow.

That thinggeh-bobber right there is what's stumpin' me. The silver bit, not the fork mount. It snapped off clean, near the bolts on the engine. For a while after I bought my '01 carlo, I noticed she pulled right under hard acceleration, Finally figured out why at least. As you can see I have that chain bolted up from the alt. bracket to the passenger mount so that I don't roll the engine too much and toast the rest of my engine/tranny mounts. I work two jobs and this car is not only my baby, but my daily driver as well. Down time is a no-go.

SO my question is, what the heck is that called?! I know it's not the mount... Tried searching for any derivative of 'engine bracket' but just can't seem to come up with an answer to it so I can actually get a price down to replace it.

On a side note, I'm joining the SSSCC ( Sand and Sage Sports Car Club ) for some hobby autocross, There's not much in the way of car clubs here where I'm at, So in preparation of that ALL engine and tranny mounts will be replaced. Rather not roll my engine off her cradle while punchin' around corners...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tar

I have heard of some people switching that bracket for the one from a 3800 SuperCharged car (supposedly the S/C has a strong bracket). I honestly have NOT done my home work on that, but I believe member TurboMonte has done that switch.

When it comes to finding parts, Jerry, is the man!

He has helped me a few times.

That's actually not a bad idea! and considering the mods I have in mind for my baby for my autocross adventures, it would probably be prudent to see about getting a stronger bracket. These things break often? I was shocked when I found it! Seen plenty of mounts toasted, but a whole bracket snapped?

WOW! Never seen that happen! Being a die cast piece, anything is possible. Maybe Jerry can chime in and tell us if there is a difference between the 2 engines.

Glad our members jumped right in and gave you the help you needed. That's what family is all about, and we ARE the MCF Family!

Mine snapped like that too. Its a pretty easy fix. The supercharged cars use a cast iron coil pack/dog bone mount bracket and I'd recommend hinging that way. My N/A '97 Grand Prix came with the supercharged bracket. To the best of my knowledge it would be a painless swap.

I have heard of a few of them breaking on here. Hopefully the junkyards in your area dont just cut the mounts to pull a motor like they do here. Of course you could just keep the chain. My buddy had a v8 vega that he had to chain the motor down so it wouldnt break the mounts and pop the hood.LOL
