Default Serpentine belt size?

My Monte calls for a (goodyear number)4060915 belt a friend has given me a brand new belt #4060910 belt. .50 of a inch shorter my question is will the tensioner have enough adjustment to use this shorter belt? Thanks

We actually can't adjust the tension, you might be pulling too tight with that belt.

For the 5 minutes that it takes to swap belts, it's worth trying, but if you notice any weird sounds get the right belt.

The tensioner pulley has a decent range of motion. .5 inches should be withing that range but may contribute to a premature pulley failure by putting extra load on the spring. Like chibi said, You hear a funky sound, change it.

the only time I know to go to a smaller size belt if there is a smaller sized pullies on the engine. if not go with the one that will least give you any problems like the original spec belt. belts are like tires and breaks and oil don't go with some thing that might mess up some thing big like a over heating issue or some thing on those lines.

Why did your belt seize? Before you put another belt on of any size, I would check your tension and all pullies. Something had to cause the belt to seize.

Jc I think you missed something. I think his belt is just old and he wants a new one.
