Default Performance Chip?

I have a 2002 Monte SS and have installed Flowmasters and am looking for quick horsepower. I'm aware of the controversy surrounding performance chips, but let's just assume for a minute that they DO work. My friend said that before i do the chip i should upgrade my headers and a whole bunch of other crap in the engine. I think the flowmasters would be enough to relieve the pressure of extra horses. Any thoughts?

Your stock exhaust was actually good for an additional 100HP.

So you think an extra 50 or so horses would be fine and not damage the engine and all the stock parts by putting too much strain?

IDK how you think you are going to get an extra 50 horses. Just read the thread I posted and do a lot of reading.

First things first, "performance chips" do NOT work on our cars. Your best bet is to get a flashed PCM from ZZP or learn how to use a Powertuner or an HPTuner.

Second, 50hp won't hurt your engine if you do it right. Don't run the engine too lean or too rich and you also have to keep an eye on KR as well. It can be done, but if you keep the engine NA then it will be expensive to squeeze out an extra 50hp (been there went beyond that).

Now another thing to look at is just because your engine can handle the extra hp, doesn't mean that the rest of the car can. Our trannys are weak and they can fail with engines that are stock.

Check out the link that Chibi gave you, and that should send you in the right direction.
