Default Performance build thread

I decided to make this thread to let everyone know what im looking for in my car. I know that I cant do an engine swap or turbo (yet) so for now Im going to try and make my 3.5 V6 as powerful as I can on a budget! I dont want to spend more than 2k on anything as of now but im still saving so later on I can spend more. My main goal is to put my car to at least 250hp and would be great if I could get up to 270hp! Right now my car is all stock except for a new grille and dual exhaust. Any ways that you know that could help would be appreciated I already plan on doing overkill tune and a CAI.

Here's a free mod that would not effect ur budget, weight reduction. Take out whatever you don't need in the car such as spare tire, back seat, whatever is collecting dust in the trunk. Power to weight ratio helps.

You looking at 250hp at the wheels or the flywheel? Either way, you have your work cut out for ya. For 2006 the 3.5 liter is rated at 211 flywheel hp stock, not great but not bad. Are looking for just bragging rights hp or drag strip et's?

there isn't really much we 3.5 guys can do to them.

I just wish gm continued making them like they did with the 3.8 that engine had a good gens with that platform before they stopped making them.

the engine was made for a short time it is a good platform but it didn't catch on.

like the new 3.6 ohc type those are good but we cant use them wish we could.

we can use the ss ls3 in it but I don't know how far you will go.

I agree with monte07, it's gonna be tough to modify the 3.5 to male decent power as no vendors pushed a lot of parts for them. Good luck man I hope you find a way to hit your goal but I have no place to tell you to look for parts. Probably going to have to custom fabricate and custom port stuff is my guess.

Not much on your car is going to be a restriction until you start adding power.

I still say save up money, find an exhaust / performance shop in your area, and discuss getting a turbo on your car.

If they can do that work, and tune your car, after the build, you will see where your restrictions are, and then you can replace what is needed.

I wouldn't bother with a TB, because you most likely aren't flowing enough air that it makes a difference. I wouldn't bother with exhaust manifolds, because those will change for the turbo, etc.
