When you removed the lifters....did you soak them in a oil bath? before you put them back in the motor?.....If not...then your going to have to tear it down again and bathe the lifters...this will fill them back up oil and remove all the air thats in each one of the lifters.....

Whatever it takes I think its definately a necessary step to get the lifters pumped back up....The only bad part that im worried about...anytime you have zero Oil moveing thru the motor is definately a danger sign, That there could already be damage to the bearing..which can also block the flow of oil throughout the motor....

Revving the motor with zero oil pressure is a definate huge no no...

Just to be through.... IF it was mine .... I would tear it completely down and go thru each and every bearing/cap etc in the motor ....
I know thats probably not something your gonna want to do/or hear ..But it might explain some of the knocking/ticking issues....
Did you change the oil filter?.... If so, I think it would be wise to crack it open (the old filter) and check for metal shaveings.... Thats a definate sign of a Bigger issue thats going on inside your Motor...

I could be wrong...But since you said theres no oil flow to the topend..
after replaceing the screen and oil pump.... Id be suspicious...

Maybe someone else will chime in and have new/bettter idea on this issue your haveing...Hope it helps.
