I use Valvoline 5/30 synthetic in my '03 3800.
I know that a lot of people use Mobil synthetic oil, but here's a true story that steered me away from it. Back in the 80s I was working as a fleet mechanic for a taxi cab company. We made the transition to synthetic oil in a couple of the cars and used Mobil 1. Within a month both cars had engine failures due to lack of lubrication. When the first engine failed we didn't think much of it, but when the second engine failed we began to wonder why. When the oil pans were removed from both engines the oil in them had literally thickened up and had the consistancy of pudding! A Mobil rep hauled both engines away and my boss was (eventually) reimbursed for the cost of new engines but after that Mobil products went to the top of my 'do not use' list. Yes, that was years ago and the formula for their oil has changed many times sice then, but I just can't bring myself to trust their products.

I use conventional oil in all my fleet. I use the manufacturer's recommended weight. I tend to stick towards well known names (Quaker State, Valvoline, Castrol) in my cars.
Never had an oil related problem. Change between 3,000-5,000 miles. My '94 Grand Am has over 210,000 miles and is running great for it's age/mileage.

I've run Castrol Edge synthetic almost exclusively since day-one in our '02. I think I started with 5W30 but switched to 10W30 at some point. Oil changes between 4K - 5K miles. 158K on our engine and still going strong.
