i took my car to a place where i could check out the whole underside of the car and also get an oil change after i bought it. the guy told me to come back in 5 thousand miles, at that rate it will be close to 5 months later! i drive about 22 miles to and from work total per week and not much more after that! the way i drive is probably doing more harm than good, but i really don't drive alot!!

Good info fellas. I definitely knew about the 3K mile rule being debunked a long time ago after synthetic oils started going main stream. Thanks again, I was just curious, but this makes a lot of sense.

One time I decided to wait 6 months to change the oil, putting almost 12k on the oil in the car. When I changed it, same as the other two vehicles, still gold...just darker.
In the cars I've had, I've not been able to go more than maybe 4k or so before its pretty dark- I couldn't imagine getting 12k and still being gold.

I'm sure I could keep going on my oil much longer, sending in oil samples and such to see when it needs changed, but it doesn't cost that much to change it to make it worth bothering with it IMO.
