big question... how much you want to spend? how fast you want to go? is it gonna be a daily driver car or a weekend toy car?

the biggest bang for buck is to do what is called the Top Swap... basicly making your car the supercharged version.

there arent many cost effective mods if you stay NA. but they are out there and its possible to have a fairly quick NA 3800.

"few thousand"? Like, $1000? or like 15,000? because well, theres going to be a difference of what we say depending on each grand you plan on putting in!

if you were to spend 10K in it i would hunt you down and slap you! you should sell the car and take that 10k and buy a vett!

best bang for your buck is Turbo. go to ZZPerformance.com and get their system. its very good. you will want a front mount Intercooler. on top of that you will want the hard Trany Parts they sell... you will want to keep your current gear ratio cause it will be better then what is found in the HD tranys that are in the SC versions!

in addition to the turbo you will prob want to swap to a new cam designed for turbo, and deff need larger injectors (these will prob be part of the turbo kit) a tuner should deff be part of your upgrades so you can customize your tune... if you dont know about tuning you better learn quick... having a car this modified is expensive... if you cant do the work yourself the bills for laybor will add up fast. without tuning support it wont last long at all as a daily driver. i would recomend a boost controler so you run at a lower boost level for daily driving and a second or third setting for track or racing...

add to this a good set of wheels to fit wider tires... you will want 245's vs the stock 225's Also bigger brakes should always be added when increasing power that much.

there are many many more supporting mods that will be needed for this... but these are the big ones

the main issues in runing a turbo are:
-Turbo Lag... for daily driving this will get anoying... turbo lag gets worse as you increase the size of the turbo... so keep in mind a larger turbo will give more power but hurt daily drivability... but a small turbo wont give the high boost that the larger ones will...
-Heat... runing a turbo will greatly increase the heat of the engine...there have been people who run into over heating issues with turbo setups... even when everything is runing correctly... it is just a factor of how much heat is generated by the turbo!
-lack of easy service... there wont be many shops that will want to work on your car... or be able to work on the engine with this much work! so make sure you have a shop that is well established in your area and that you know as much as you can about the car!

z34phoenix pretty much said it...

10K is alot to spend on an 8 year old car... depending on your mileage, you may want to buy a low mileage L36 block, and built it up with a SC setup, or find a L32 block that already has the GenV supercharger, and build up from there.

Turbos are also cool... Cartuning has a great kit, that is basically plug and play with everything you need. That kit with the intercooler will run you around 4K, tranny upgrade, 2.5 to 3K if you get the single chain, 300m input shaft, TC, and improved 4th gear. This type of setup will put out ALOT more power than any supercharged setup. I prefer the SC setup myself, but that's just me.

Good luck, and keep us posted on your plans.
