New intake gasket
I decided to create a new thread instead of hacking afterburns overheating thread.
Long story short, I bought my monte 3 weeks ago and found out the intake gaskets needed replaced (started eating coolant and overheating), and I got screwed over on the dealers (it was 50% parts and labor) crappy warranty.[:@]
New Intake gaskets are in, new thermostat, temp sensor, spark plugs, serp belt, system bled, car is put back together, I am happy now
The motor sucked up a whole two gallons of coolant in the 10 mile drive to my rents house ( I use their garage since I don't have one at my townhouse). I just don't understand how 3 weeks ago I took the car on a test drive and everything was fine. But, judging by the gunk everywhere it has been a problem for awhile. I should have had the STEALER pop the valve cover off before I bought it ( I enjoyed the stealer thread)
Helpful hints for this project.
Buy the complete metal gasket kit from Felpro.
The alternator and power steering pump come off.
Everything short of the heads and exhaust comes off.
You also need an O-ring for the fuel line on the fuel rail inlet side, it flys off or gets destroyed. It is dealer only and costs $11.
Don't mix up the pushrods they are different lengths.
Thanks for the plastic gaskets GM

Thanks intimidator, I was hoping this would at least happen a little farther down the road and give me time to get the parts together for a top swap. She runs like a champ now. I didn't do a compression check forfear of opening another can of worms, but there aren't any bubbles in my overflow tank so that usually means they're okay.
