i dunno what it is or why, but when i shut my car off it makes a noise for about one minute and the noise is usually sounding like metal on metal.. like scratching.. anyone have any ideas?

 

can you pinpoint where the sound is coming from?

maybe your fan is bent, or hitting something and you only notice it when the engine just shuts off?

 

it hasnt done it recently, but yeah im guessing its either the fan or maybe the belt...

 

what year is the car your having the problem with?

does it do it when u turn your key on? or just when you shut it off cause in my tahoe i can hear the fuel pump when i turn it off and when i turn the key on that could be it. but under the hood i have no idea

 

when i turn it off. like for ex, one mornin i pulled into school, and it made the noise..scared the **** outta me so i turned it back on and it stopped..

 

hmm i hate to say it but its really hard to diagnose across the net with such little info. from what ive gathered u have a 2000 ss (3.8 v6) and when u shut ur car off u have a metal on metal noise that happens for about a minute. it only happens (or u can only hear it) when u shut the car off and when u turn the car back on it goes away (or u cant hear it anymore) does this happen every time or only sum of the time? is it a ting sound? a scraping sound? help us help u

 

lol yeah all that info is right. okay, it only does it sometimes, and when it does, it makes a metal noise. kinda like screetching! it does it for about one minute and its pretty loud. it stops when it is ready to, expect if i turn on my car.
