RE: Motor Swap
Ebay will have used 3800 on there every so often. I wouldnt be surprised if one was on now. I dont know if you could find any new ones on there. You may have to go to gmpartsdirect.com for that.

Search for 2004, Monte Carlo, Engine, and when it prompts you for engine type, select VIN "1", not VIN "K". VIN 1 is the Supercharged 3800.
When you find one that's close to you, (you can sort by price or distance), call them up, ask them the condition, whether's it's a complete engine (most descriptions on the search results will tell you alot, including mileage), and then ask them if they have the matching 4T65e-HD tranny to go with it.
Good luck with your search.

RE: Motor Swap
IMO its retarded to buy a new crate engine anyways. Junkyards are filled with 3800 series 2 cars- most of the ones I've seen sell online, especially L36s seem to go for $750 or less (I've seen some long block L36s go for $250). Plus with the shear number of 3800 cars out there, you're bound to find some with decent mileage.
The last time I saw prices on L36 and L67 crate engines, they were up in the $3k range- still missing a lot of accessories and such.
I would try:

www.clubgp.com in the classifieds.
