Question monte transmission

hey you guys well i wanted to ask how come my 98 monte has the gear selector by the steering wheel? all the monte's I've seen have them in the middle between the two seats, mine has it next to the steering wheel like the lumina's and most automatic truck's. why would this be? its monte carlo ls 3.1

The 5th gen monte's came with several options. Some had sunroofs, some don't. Some have column shifters, some don't. Some have leather, and some have cloth seats.

Your monte isn't super special because of the column shifter, it just depends on the feature package your monte got.

If you don't like it you can get a floor shifter out of a junker and convert it over. I know it's been done before.

I've never seen one before, it's not common, that's for sure.

Kind of cool however I don't know that I could ever convert back lol

Never knew they had column shifts on that gen. I honestly like column shift better, but thats my opinion

I wouldn't call it rare, you either had a bench seat with column shift or bucket seats with a center console and floor shift.
