sry should have said vacuum not pressure.
On the L67, it actually does both since it has a 2 bar map sensor. L36's and most other cars just use a 1 bar that only reads vac.

i never thought of it like that...using vacuum to measure air intake instead of the other way around.
Yeah, and its suprisingly common. It does make modding a little bit tougher because its relying on the engine's volumetric efficiency values that were pre-entered at the factory. If you have a way to tune the pcm, its fine- but otherwise it can be a pain.

The reason you don't see many people run straight MAP on our cars is because so many people go boosted. The L36 MAP being only a 1 bar can only handle 0 down, the L67 MAP is a 2 bar, so it can do up to about +14.7ish- but a lot of turbo guys go over that. GM does have a 3 bar map also- but the bad thing is you lose resolution the higher you go because you still have the same number of table spots in the pcm- so if you have one sensor reading 0 down vs. another one reading from +29.4 down, you have bigger gaps between where the pcm can read (ie you have bigger steps in your map table).

and with the maf you dont have to rely on set inputs from equations...real time numbers and smaller steps in the table. u really understand your stuff chad.

yeah..if you want to though the map sensor..is on the upper intake manifold...right next to the coil packs...in like in front of them...theres a vac. line going into the intake manifold and its a little black rectangle....
