M62 Supercharger

M62 Supercharger
Hey guys, I found an M62 Eaton Supercharger with the TB. What supercharger can fit on the 3400? I've read on some forum that a couple grand ams came with an M62 supercharger. Think I should grab? Pretty cheap for it, came off a '96 Pontiac and its said to have 50k miles on it.

You wont be able to use it if you dont have a mount or the drive for it. Those grand ams had a special supercharger housing that was formed specifically for those cars so it could mount in front of the engine (to the side technically) instead of on top. Instead of being open on the bottom, the housing necked down so it could mate with the throttle body opening on the stock intake manifold. Also, it had a TB build in to it that snaked down so it sat down below the actual body of the supercharger, so when you turned the supercharger on its side like they mount on the grand ams, the TB was actually close to its original location in the engine bay. Also, the snout had a long bearing shaft bolted on with a pully on the other end so the accessory drive could turn the supercharger and the supercharger could still sit on the opposite side of the engine. Its a pretty complicated unit. You cant just use ANY M62 you need the one specifically made for those grand ams.

Damn. Alright. Well, I guess I can go turbo either way then. But anywho, this says that it'll fit the 2000-2005 Monte Carlo SS only, but then it says under-neath that, that it fits the 2000-2003 Impala LS...which basically has the 3400 in it lol, by the way its placed (from what it looks like) it can fit my engine. If it's listed for the 2000-2003 Impala LS, it'll definitely fit my car correct? Just a tad worried about the way it connects to the TB though. Haha oh well, If I can get that in i can def make it work.
296hp on stock GT? I thought the numbers would be at least around 325. Doesnt seem worth it now

I know, but still. Seems kinda low for me, but that's just adding the turbocharger. With new intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, heads...etc i'm sure that number will jump to around 350whp, that's without a tune probably lol

295hp to the wheels is a huge increase. You have to think that the car stock is (170 hp-185 hp because of the 3.4) to the crank not to the wheels so 300 to the wheels is huge. If you are talking 350 to the wheels you are gonna have to do more upgrades than just motor upgrades. At the HP you are gonna need a built tranny in no time.

Also some food for thought. 296whp is a HUGE gain when it comes to the 3800 but I will put it into perspective.
3400 = 180 crank hp or ~135whp
3800 = 200 crank hp or ~150whp
sc 3800 = 240 crank hp or ~190whp
If you went from a bone stock 3800 to a 296whp 3800, it would be a great gain. That's going from a high 15 second car to a high 12 second car.
Just go turbo if you want to keep the 3400.

snoop around on 60degreev6.com, read first, search second, read third, ask last. lots of people go on that forum and ask stupid questions with out looking to see if there question was already asked and answerd. guys are putting down 225 whp no problem, 300+ with turbos. but as mentioned, your trans wont last long with 200+ whp. then if you want prices on things head over to the wottech.com store
