Default Lost my Turbocharger today on the freeway..

LOL, was cruising up I-15 to Salt Lake City to my mechanics shop and had someone rolling up on me pretty hard. It looked to be an F body Camaro and so we ran neck n neck for a few till I dropped into 3rd and got in to it. Did about a 1/8th mile pull and a strange noise manifested itself. A low tight whine....... I was like dang it. Pulled over next exit, all seemed okay under the hood, good oil pressure, belt still on. So I drove at 70mph to Matt's shop. Did a test drive for his ears, went back, pulled the turbo intake hose and no oil, probably spun a few bearings. We will see once it gets pulled apart. This was supposed to be a very good turbo. Precision 6765 Dual ball bearing water and oil cooled. Have maybe 10,000 miles on it. Well anyway I would rather have it fail here than 300 miles away from home. Now we have a chance to improve the whole system and install a possibly better size turbo. Looking at the Borg Warner AIRWERKS turbocharger. They are built specifically for race applications. I guess it can only get better from here, lol no big deal it was a fun time anyway the Camaro and I even if it was short lived. Thats life in the fast lane.........

Below is my car at the shop today after the turbo went down. Notice Sam's 07 Monte SS in the background...

At least you had a little fun and get to upgrade the turbo still a bummer though.

Never fun having stuff brake. I agree, best being close to home and not on a long road trip!

Diagnose, redesign/fix and back on the road. Hope it all goes well!

Ouch LOL, good thing you weren't too far from home. Could have been worse

Looking forward to seeing which turbo you go with next

Could have been worse, my friends turbo had issues, and parts ended up getting into the engine.
