i have the torque app as well, and the adaptor to use it with my phone and car. so i will monitor temps via that for a while, but id still feel better about physically installing a gauge in the car to monitor, as itd be easier to read than my phone constantly.
Dorman makes a pan it runs like $40-50 I just picked one up from a local parts store. Cheap alternative to the aluminum ZZP one. Usually normal temps on an LS4 once warmed up will be 200-220. Mine used to set about 212...it's not really a question of if you will need one because these run hot all the time.

i did some browsing and found this pan youre talking about. that will definitly be on the top of the purchase list when i get a ss in my posession

on a side note. looked at a 07 monte ss with 58k miles on it. drove 2.5 hours to look at it, he failed to mention he didnt even have the title in his posession, failed to mention it was hit in left rear and suffered suspension damage. and car fax confirmed the car has had allignments done every 3-6 months since the accident occured in 08, which tells me it wasnt fixed right. then opened hood to find mouse crap every where with chunks of chewed plastic. so i passed on that deal
i am hopefully looking at a 06 ss with 77k on it on friday. my fingers are crossed on this one

What Tranny Cooler's are available and recommended for the 06-07 SS??

The only ones I have come across online did not have a re-circulator pump included.

i dont think you will find a external cooler with a "re-circulator pump" as you tie it into the lines from the transmission, and use the transmission pump to circulate fluid, like it is already doing from factory. we just add on to the factory system with another cooler, to further cool the fluid

Honestly I should have bypassed the radiator. It warms the fluid up more than anything. I see 180 degree temps now with it going through. I think I'll drop to 170s or lower bypassing.

well i finally got a ss. its a 06 with 77k on it. sounds really healthy. i took it for a very spirited test drive, and tranny is strong. no hesitation, surging, searching for gears. it does make more what i believe to be is lifter tick on cold start than im used to, but am gonna do a light sea foam treatment, and get some good fresh oil in it. previous owner only changed oil when the oil monitor was under 10%, which im not thrilled about her doing that. exhaust sounds louder than stock, but appears to be stock under car, so dont know what thats all about

i already purchased a new trans pan with a drain in it, new filter, gasket, and fresh dexron 6 fluid. ill probably change motor oil and trans fluid this weekend.

but overall im happy with it. now i get to have fun modding and enjoying a v8 again

this was the monte loaded for its trip home. i have a few other pics of all the extra ss and monte carlo emblems they added, which i removed. looked kinda ricey if you ask me lol. and then they took pin stripe decals and underlined every emblem on the car, which i also have since removed. when it warms up and we get some sun here ill take more pics of the car
