Default looking to enhance engine performance

HI i am new to the forums but not 100% new to the Monte Carlos. My first was a 98 ls nothing too special, but it was really strong and reliable. It took on everything from Blizzards to accidental off-roading. What finally took it down was the EF-5 tornado that went through Joplin-MO. anyway I just recently bought an 04 supercharged SS and i love it. It drives like a beast. I am wanting to know if there are any relatively inexpensive upgrades or mods to get just a little bit more power. alot of my friends are stuck on the mustangs and i personally dont care for the cars and i really want to stick it to them with my new monte. Any ideas or feedback would be much appreciated.

A cool air intake with a heat shield will give you a little boost and some more mpg as well.

I've been more on the naturally aspirated end of things, BUT there are lots of options for a supper charged 3800! A cold air intake, ZZP downpipe (I believe 3" is what you want) with high flow cat is a good start. Lots of stuff.

^^^ What he said lol.. Yeah I'd start with an intake and downpipe, and look at trying different pulley sizes. A nice exhaust system would be a good mod as well and headers if you want to have some fun

There's LOTS of things that you can do to an L67. You can make it so that you run just barely faster then a new v6 Mustange (high 13's low 14's in the 1/4), or you can build your car to run high 9's (probably the best you'll get without going to a tube chassis).

Here's a good link to see what you can do: https://montecarloforum.com/forum/en...-bumpin-24896/

Do NOT go with gimmicky things like e3 spark plugs, platinum spark plugs, or t/b heat shields. They give you no gains, and you're better off spending the money elsewhere.

3800's can make hp. Mine is okay, but there are a number of people out there making more hp then I do. What kind of hp or 1/4 mile goals do you have? Once you get that set, we'll be able to help you out a lot better.

If u don't get the down pipe make sure to delete the "u" bend atleast!

the u bend in the exaughst is a big difference also a better downpype as well a better cat that comes with it. the cold air intake frome wizzard from zzp will help from what others have said that has the ss supercharged engines. they did that first the new down pype with out the ubend helps as well as the intake. before cracking open the heads and replacing the rockers and every thing. the pully will help but also a power tuner for it will help when you do a different pully size. there are alot of things you can do for a good umph for it but i would do two things first cold air intake and down pype that erases the ubend and the funky stock cat that is prone to going bad and not flow corectly

I don't see the point of doing a ubend on a l67 engine when headers are available. They are almost the same price, and while you are in there taking off the downpipe why not just pull off the manifolds as well? You will be able to get a lot more power from headers in the long run if you keep modifying.

What are the best headers. Ive seen the slp headers for zzp but no real info on how to go after that. I have a n/a monte and lookin to upgrade the whole exhaust system. But alot of conflicting information out there. Thinkin slp headers, zzp downpipe, high flow cat aswell as 2.5" cat back. Maybe magnaflow or flowmatlster. Has anyone else dome this? Could give me some idea of what to expect?

Most of the headers have fairly similar designs and will offer great flow compared to stock, so the main difference is build quality, so you get what you pay for basically.

You can't do the headers and downpipe, with the headers you will need a custom downpipe, or at least this goes for most header setups i've seen, I could be wrong.

With a downpipe there will be an option for a high flow cat. As far as exhaust on these cars, either way they don't sound too good, Magnaflow will give you decent sound with minimum rasp, Flowmaster is generally deeper but has rasp at higher rpms.

I think if you're serious about all of this you really need to do research on everything you want to do, there are plenty of threads on modding the 3800 and everything that you have questions about, also if you're looking for a specific exhaust note, look around on youtube for exhausts on Monte Carlos, Grand Prixs, Regals etc...
