Default Leak

I dont know what to call this part so I will describe it. It is the metal housing on the passenger side between the transaxle and the cv shaft and I have a leak between this housing and the transaxle. I would like to know what it is called and any advice about changing the oring or gasket. 4t65e

That would be the diff cover. There is a seal in the diff cover that seals the axle and also a rubber o ring behind that cover. Figure out which spot it's leaking from and go from there. The seal can be changed with the axle pulled and diff cover on. The rubber o ring you need to pull the axle support the trans with a large flat board and a jack and unbolt the diff to engine bracket and then the remaining 2 diff cover bolts. Both take a little time but are fairly easy to do. Anymore questions feel free to ask

I honestly don't know what a mechanic would charge. If you have some tools and an afternoon you could tackle it I'm sure. I could even give you a walk through if needed

The o ring maybe a hard one to find and is probably gm only. Any parts store will have the axle seal.
