I have a 2003 SS, with a 3.8 liter engine, and I live in Houston, Tx. I just had a fuel leak repaired, and a new rack and pinion steering system installed. Now I need to get the car inspected, but I can't get the catalyst monitor, and the evaporative system monitor to pass. The car has never had a problem passing an inspection. The inspection people tell me that I need to drive the car a while before the sensors become active. I have driven the car over 300 miles since I had the work was done, and the monitoring machine still shows the catalyst and the evaporative system monitors as incomplete. Everything else checks out. I am told that the engine light would be "on" if the sensors were not working. Please help me with this issue as soon as you can, since my inspection sticker is due by July 31st, and I cannot get it without an official inspection.Thank you.
Not only is 300 miles a requirement, there are a few others to get the drive cycles to repair. But really, 4 drive cycles and 300 miles should do the trick.
But if the lights aren't turning off, there could be an issue with the system itself, get the CEL read if you are showing them and repair the problem. Although if you know a local tuner, they could technically just shut those codes off so that you can pass.
I bought a Seekone SK819 Universal Car Code Reader, and it shows the Catalyst Monitor and the Evaporative System Monitor as incomplete. I do not know how to get the specific codes. Everything else checks out. I also went to this site:https://carfromjapan.com/article/car...tor-not-ready/. I did everything suggested, but the two monitors still show incomplete.
I don't know what else to tell you. You must have a problem with those systems and need to get them fixed. If you don't have a check engine light on, you will need someone with better technology to help you diagnose.
C'mon, man. I need some help, here. Where can I turn to get some advice?
No offense, but if you need immediate help that must be accurate, a local mechanic shop is your best bet.
Its hard to diagnose electronic issues remotely, especially with the extremely limited information we've got here. Someone needs to plug in a legitimate diagnostic scan tool and figure out what's going on exactly.
This isnt a standard / common problem on these cars, so it's going to be a fairly unique situation.

Good thought. Unfortunately, I had the starter replaced yesterday, and they disconnected the battery. So I need to start anew to get the odometer where it needs to be. By the way, it was an authorized Chevrolet dealership that performed recall 15V701 and 14V400, and repaired a fuel leak. So I will take it back to them for a look-see. Thanks for the idea. I will let you know what happens.
