How many miles are too many?

Sounds like we have a similar issue with our transmissions. Mine will be fine 90% of the time and then when I come to a stop and go to take off, it will sit there for a minute while I'm pressing the gas and then it's like the tranny catches and it thumps and kicks hard and then takes off. It's annoying.
I honestly have not pursued anything as it does not happen often and I quite honestly found it odd two transmissions do the same stinkin' thing. I may investigate more this year on the subject. One thing at a time, I need to get my evap core mess finished and get the dash back together on the Monte.

Yeah, sadly, both my 3800 powered Monte and the 3400 powered Impala both do something almost identical to that. To my knowledge the Monte has NEVER had any trans servicing and I bought it in '08 with 52K on it. I don't know how the original Impala trans was but I know the one we put in will do that once in a while.

same with mine, does a similar thing sometimes. Honestly if the car is working fine 90% of the time i would say right now its not even worth your time and money. Why fix what isn't really broke. I mean look at mat (mrl340) he ran his car for a long time with no overdrive.

I have 159,538 (original tranny, no rebuilds) and the only tranny problem I have is hard shifting when it warms up. I guess its still a good tranny because I change the fluid and filter and have no metal shavings.

Yeah, I thought about that too. Has anyone ever rebuilt their own transmission before? Just wondering how hard it is. My Dad used to build race cars and he would rebuild his own transmissions all the time. But that was in old rear wheel drive cars.

If you do a 3800 swap I would suggest going with the L67 S/C 3800 over the L36 N/A 3800. The 3.8 has 200HP, that's pretty weak in today's cars, you're going to need a little bit more to keep up with the curve. Just my suggestion.

I've thought about that too. My concern about an L67 is that they are beaten. There seem to be a ot of L67's going bad with way less than 100,000 miles. Spun bearings, thrown rods, etc. I think that the best bet for that would be to find a low mileage L36 and do a top swap.

And I don't have any knock, if maybe a 1-2* with 89 octane. Love me some street tune
