Default How to: Alternator installation

I think my alt is going out but I have never replaced one ever, just wondering if you guys know of a how to guide for replacing it? If any of you have ever done it on this car, is it a pretty straight forward thing or something better left to the pro's? I am mechanically inclined, just have no experience with this.

it is very easy! i have changed it out 3 times now. there is 2 bolts in the back which are a PITA to get to. i wish i could remember what size they are.. but they are reallly long so just be patient with it. there is also a bolt on the side which is easy to see.. you dont have to take the coolent reservoir out. i did once, but its not necessary. the tensioner is a 1/2in socket just pull up on it once you get the socket it in there and it loosens the belt. i should have done a how to with pictures when i did it the last time..

Just remember how the belt goes if it falls off. Also be careful of the wires on the back of it. Make sure you un plug all of them first.

Just go in order, take neg off battery, take off belt, remove the plugs going into alt. Unbolt it. Just do reverse when installing new. Try to tighten the bolts to the same pressure when you took them off.

Alternators are very plug and play. Don't worry about it, just disconnect what you see (3 bolts, belt, plug) and reverse to install.

I was able to find a schematic that indicated the rear two bolts and immediately thought "oh boy, that's gonna be fun getting to"

But other than that from what I've been able to find online and what you guys have said here it seems like it's a pretty straight forward deal so I think i'm gonna give it a shot myself.

Whoa! Exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks for this guys! I actually need to replace my alternator as it suddenly goes bad yesterday. I'm not that mechanically inclined but I can try doing it myself. Where do you think is the best place to get this automotive car alternator? Thanks!
