High Rev and stalling

Ok first off i dont know much about cars so this might sound a little stupid so try to stay with me.
So my 88 Monte Carlo lately has been acting strange so im gonna list the abnormalities.
1)When i start the car it revs really high, than after a few seconds it will calm down and the "check engine" light will come on.
2) The engine will start stalling when i come to a stop, and i have to give it some gas just for it to continue running
3) When it doesn't decide to stall out and i have my foot on the brake it feels like its trying to accelerate (i have stopped completely and let the brake go and my car gets to about 30-35 mph without me having to give it any gas)
Now it feels like it has to be a faulty wire or some sensor gone bad, because at least one day a week it runs perfectly normal like there's nothing wrong with it
Thanks in advanced for any help i really appreciate it

I'm no expert but it sounds to me like there may be a vacuum leak, that would account for the high rev at the start, engine light, and the stalling.
Check your engine bay and make sure all of your vacuum lines are good, make sure everything is connected properly. On a car that age sometimes the ends rot out; sometimes you can simply cut off the end of the line and reconnect it, if the line is long enough.
Seems like most of your symptoms fit the bill, but let us know if you resolve it or have any more questions.
