I hear ya on wanting to get the Deuce out on the road. My Monte right now is in middle of multiple projects (waiting for some parts to come back to finish the big one). But right now the one I'm not sure I wanted to rip into was changing the evaporator core, but I'm pretty heavy into it and it's a PAIN IMO.

It's a good thing we love our Montes!
I wouldn't lose as much knuckle skin over any other car than the Deuce.

Thanks Friends! Drinks on me!!
Glad to hear you got the best of the stubborn bolt!
What rotors did you go with? and are you doing new calipers or anything too?

I plan on getting drilled and slotted rotors, and upgrading calipers/powdercoating eventually when I do brakes on my 06.

Oh, and Pictures! Gotta have those when done :P

i am replacing with drilled and slotted rotors and high performance ceramic brake pads from Brake Performance. I am also going to re-paint the calipers red now that they are off the car.

I have added so many new mods this spring and winter. I will have a special thread when the Deuce comes out of storage in May. I will do all pictures at once then. Deuce is really going to POP for her spring coming out photo shoot.

I really would like to come home from the Monte Nationals with some kind of award. I want to make it so they could roll a mirror under her and say "OMG" ! <!-- / message -->

Exclamation Brakes

Sorry if I'm piggy backing just let me know if I should just make a new thread but here's my issue:

Problem: Pulsing/shaking under braking
Cause: Warped rotors.
Solution: Replace with a quality aftermarket rotor and this problem should go away. After going through several sets of OEM rotors, I switched to Centric and haven't warped a set since.
Prevention: avoid getting rotors wet while hot, avoid hard braking and then holding the pads on the rotors

Is an issue I have I'm looking into getting Centric since that's obviously what was suggested, any specific type you suggest? I have an 06 Monte SS the only mods I'm going to have is Thrush muffler and CAI maybe a res delete. I don't usually do hard breaking... on occasion... (Windsor drivers SUCK!)

You may want to list your question under a new thread to get more hits.

However, as for me I haven't tried out my new drilled and slotted roters yet as my car is still in storage. From what I read you have to be very carefull to follow the manufacture's break in instructions for new rotors. I have a set of instructions from Brake Performance for breaking in their rotors (They have a lifetime guarentee against warping and cracking)

Warping is not always just the metal bending in the rotor it is also caused by the break pad material building up on the rotor and baking on causing high spots on the rotor (this later cause of warping is due to improper breaking in of the new rotors.

Hope this helps some

So far, I have not sustained many injuries (like busted/scrapped knuckles) over the Monte, but all my other cars, yeah, they've had a moment to get combinations of blood, sweat and tears. Monte, not much blood, but depending on the weather, possibly a lot of sweat....

Did you replace the rubber boots for the slide pins yet?

I bought replacements myself for this weekend. IT IS VERY HARD WITHOUT A PRESS. I had to use a 5/8s socket and a hammer and grease to try to get the new boot in. Needless to say I only did 1 of the 4

If they aren't broken or torn, I wouldn't bother honestly

Hey there Chibi! I have the rebuild kit for the slide pins (rubber boots) and brake guides.... yes but have not used them yet. I was planing on resuming my work on the Deuce after my vaction next week.

Thanks for the heads up though friend.... the boots do not apear to be torn or worn and supprisingly the pads where not worn after 6 years and 74k miles. If I didn't want the drilled and slotted rotors I prob could have gone another 6 years before doing this.

I would just put them in a drawer for when you need them.

They really were a pain, and we TORE my old one trying to get them off, so I HAD to replace. Took maybe 45 minutes of hammering and pressing, and prying. Not worth it to replace something that isn't broken.
