What engine ? How many miles ? How has it been maintained ? Serviced ?
What has been replaced or updated ?
Is it the original fuel pump ?
Filter was a good start...(Could be bad gas)
Bad clogged injector's ?
How long has she had this Monte ?
How long has it ran OK...
Did you look inside the MAF to see if it's clean/clear ?
Have you worked on cars before ? This Monte ? Is anyone in the family a mechanic ?

Post as much about the systems as you can & it will help our expert member's help.

Keep checking back (many member's take Sunday's `off)
Good luck on finding the problem

Check the fuel pressure. It could be the pump getting weak and going bad. Could be the MAF sensor also. Check for codes.

Ok sorry wasn't thinking its a 3.8 motor used put in by a shop awhile ago now don't know for sure of miles, its stumbled once or twice in the past but always cleared up till now yes I have worked on this one before on the security pass lock bypass I haven't gotten a fuel pressure tester yet but going to soon . I'm not a mechanic more of a parts changer but im not totally lost either. well till now. im firm believer in if it isn't broke don't fix it but don't like throwing parts at it that gets expensive hopefully this will help if I've missed something please by al means correct me

Yes first thing i did, i can unplug the Maf and car will start and try idling not rite but try to,But makes a loud howling noise coming from the housing the sensor sits on connected to the air box
Plug Maf back in and it dies with a cloud of smoke .

That sounds like a MAF problem. A buddy of mine had a MAF going bad and it puffed out black smoke.

it might also be th e crank position sensor. If so, have fun pulling the balancer off.

Where is this loud "Howling" Noise coming from? How many miles on it?

If its coming from the upper intake... (the big black thing on top the motor)
It maybe time for upper and lower intake gaskets...

Plugging in the MAF causes it to huff smoke and it stalls...
Id definitely say the MAF needs to be replaced... be sure to only get an ACDelco Maf... all other off brands tend to fail (bosch etc) Our Monte Carlos work best with Genuine GM Parts.

Yes they cost a little more.. But its worth it...

If you buy the cheapo.... Youll be replacing it in a cpl months and then your savings go down the drain.
