Default h.o.305 turbo or supercharge?

Hey i am thinking about putting a turbo or supercharger on my 305 now i have heard that 305s dont produce enough power for a supercharger but it is a high output 305 out of a caprice cop car idk if that makes much of a difference in power but still i would like to know wich would be the smarter choice, supercharged or just bolt on a turbo? any advice would be appritiated thanks.

If I were gonna put that much money into a build I wouldn't waste my time with a 305. I would find a nice 350 and build that up you'll be much happier in the end. just my thought on the topic. Oh and as far as supercharger or turbo you cant go wrong either way both would be fun.

For the money you would sink into a 305 to boost it, you could just buy a GMPP 350 grate motor.

And I'm going to assume he meant a GMPP 350 crate motor.

i dont think it would really be worth it to throw a power adder at that motor. itll definitely make more power with a blower, or a turbo on it, but it'll surely blow that bottom end up unless its freshened up. now you could probably get away with doing bearings, rings, and a cam with a baby blower, but i dont think it would be worth while. i mean at its wildest what was the 305s best hp rating? 225? i think it would suck to go through all that work only to make 350hp if even that with the 305s heads. there are several places to find crate motors for a fair price, or you could comb the yard and pony up a couple hundo for a 350+ small block. you can then get the bottom end rebuilt with flat tops, a decent cam, and a set of decent heads. youd probably wind up breaking the 350hp number for around the same price, and the motor would be na and reliable. up to you. heres a baby weiand for sale on ebay for a decent price.

i have heard that 305s dont produce enough power for a supercharger
I'm confused how any engine wouldn't produce enough power for a supercharger? The idea of the supercharger is to add power. The only way I could see this being even remotely possible is if you got some super massive unit like off a top fuel drag car or something- but even then- those things run a bunch of boost, and it would be WAY higher on a much smaller engine with much worse flowing heads- so its not like the engine could survive that kind of boost anyways.

But keep in mind, there are 4 cylinder cars with superchargers (mini's, cobalt SS's, etc)- so you can buy a supercharger that will work with just about any size engine.

My wieand 142 on my 87 SS 305 bone stock went 13.30's. The biggest downfall of the h.o. and boost is the cast 9.5:1 pistons. Sooner or later you WILL crack one or burn a hole in one, took a year or so and probably 50 runs at the track. So it is doable (for a while) Also spend the money and buy some type of ignition system w/ a boost retard. Unless you beat on it constantly it will last long enough to build a 355 to put under it.

K thanks im just thinking bout savin some money and gettin a 350 out of the scrap yard somewhere since their fairly common round here shouldnt be too much i hope. i mostly would like the idea of a 305 that could blow by the 350 cars but i dont see that happening too easily so 350 seems like the simpler choice obviously lol
