Default can I supercharge my 98 z34 3.8??

I have a 98 z34 monte carlo with 106k on the clock all original stuff besides routine upgrades. Can i slap a supercharger on it that goes on the grand prix, newer monties n stuff, theres a guy on craigslist that is selling a new supercharger for the 3.8 for 200$. Question is can my car take it in its stock form with stock internals? and can my tranny take it as well? all i want to do is put it on there and thats it stock pully, no exhaust mods nothing since its my DD. Thanks guys!

Hi `Loren,
You can do anything, `if you have the money to do it.
I'm sure that you could install a S/C on your Monte,
but I think there will be other components that will need
upgraded also....Like: Transmission/Susp/Cooling Syst/
and more. I'm sure other member's will add to this list.
You stated that you are using your Monte Carlo as a
dailey driver, and I know you want it to be reliable.
I know I'm not you, but I would suggest enjoying your
Monte Carlo and save, or trade for a Monte that came from
the factory with a S/C. It's your life, your money, your
decision. Just my $2 comment : ) Plus, fuel cost with a
S/C using Top Fuel Grades. : (
Your Monte has over 100K miles, and boost adds strains
to your internals. I would really do your homework before
you decide. I hope that other member's with more knowledge
will post and give you their opinions, and share their knowledge.
Good Luck, and let us know what you decide.

L67 swap. www.motorswap.org.

It's almost the same amount of work to supercharge your L36 (3800 NA) than the swap it out complete for a L67 (3800 SC) You need to teardown to the heads, swap the crank pulley to the L67 balancer, add all the brackets and pulleys, get new fuel rails, Lower Intake Manifold, L67 heads, etc... It's alot of wrenching.

Plus, with your mileage, you're risking your engine by boosting it after 100k. It would work, but you would need a perfect and safe tune to avoid piston chunking.

The prices for L67 engines from 2000+ GTPs, or even 04/05 Montes are not that expensive nowadays, you should be able to pick up a low mileage complete engine for $1200 or less, including tranny. I'd do the tranny too if I were you, since you would be going to the HD version, which includes the HD diff, and 2.93 gears.

What's your budget? How much are you willing to spend to gain 100HP over what you have now?
