Here is a link to what mods you can do to a 3400

To be honest, save your money and buy stock ac delco wires and for coils pick up a set of L67 coils from a junk yard for $30.00 they don't give a whole lot, but it is said you do notice a difference, but they are very well manufactured from gm and very rarely break down so no point in spending a whole lot of money on the upgrades.

Yep those ac delcos are recommended for our Montes. And I may take that advice on the coils. But I have the L36 so I may not get as much of a difference if any.

They do recommend it for the NA 3800's as well as the 3400's
Not sure if there is a huge difference or just lets the car run smoother and feels as if it accelerates better, but people that have done the mod do recommend it, and for the price it's a cheap upgrade if it works

The L67 coils improve throttle response, nothing too crazy. I ran a set on an old 3100 and I noticed them very little when I put them on, but when I "demodded" the car and put the stock ones on, I was REALLY missing the L67 ones.
I run L67 coils on my current 3400 powered Grand Am and my L36 Monte. No regrets, just keep it cheap (not worth spending big money on as the gains are minimal).

As for engine swaps, an L36 and L67 swap into a 3400 powered Monte is probably easier to do then a 3500 swap. You can get everything you need from many different cars in the junk yard. But, do your research, ask question of people who have worked with these different swaps. There are lots of options you can explore. You could even "top swap" the heads, LIM, UIM from a 3500 to a 3400 for some gains.

Here are the parts you need:
-complete L67/4t65hd
-engine bay wiring harness for a 3800 monte (any), probably best if you find it from an 01
-L36-L67 wire swap conversion (two plugs, about $20)
-pcm tuned for an L67/4t65
-axles
-fresh fluids

You should be able to easily pull it off under $2k. Even if you found a stupid low mile setup and dropped $3k on it- you'd still have $2k-3k to put into mods, or savings. This does assume that you or someone you know knows how to work on cars.
(this is what bumpin posted on that thread)

Id really like to find someone who has done this to see what kind of issues they had as far as cutting or retro fitting anything,if it just drops in and bolts up that would be great,il keep searching around for more info later today, but If can come up with a 3.8,4t65 tranny, exhaust and (axles??) il go with that plan Intimidator, thanks for giving me the idea lol
