Default Funny Observations with Brakes

I recently made this observation. Common brake upgrade for both W-body (Monte and the sibling cars) and also the N-Body (Grand Ams and there sibling cars) is to do a 4th gen F-body dual caliper swap. Now, I get why the lower tier cars don't have the higher tier goodies from the factory like dual piston calipers.

But here is something I found interesting. GM loves to share parts between cars. Knowing the W and N bodies are interchangeable with F-body front calipers tells me a lot. Below is a Monte brake pad and a late model Grand Am brake pad. Size is about the same, but the Monte pad has more surface area. I am surprised the caliper on the Monte was not shared with the Grand Am. I'm not sure the parts have a cost difference and it would have made less parts for GM to shuffle. Just funny observations lol.

Thumbs up

A few years ago a friend of mine was a Chevy dealer parts manager and the same part of the Cadillac also fit the Chevy the numbers were different and the cost was different too.
But, good for the reminder, I also need to do the brakes on mine this year before carshow season and this will be a great chance for me to maybe teach my grandson a little bit about cars. Could be a pipedream too!! lol
