FASTER!

A v6 is meant for one thing, good gas milage and a cheaper purchase all together. If you want performance or "FASTER" get a V8 like mine.

Woah, swap?? Are you serious?? That sounds like a good way to ruin your summer. Look man, it all comes down to this. A v6 is meant for one thing, good gas milage and a cheaper purchase all together. If you want performance or "FASTER" get a V8 like mine. Otherwise don't do like I've done in the past and beat yourself up trying to squeeze water out of a rock. Good luck.

0) If V6s are meant for one thing, why did you mention 2 things (mileage and cheaper purchase)? [8D]
1) Why don't we line up. Perhaps you'll learn something newabout your V8, like why it can't keep up with a cheap and mileage-centric V6. You are only pushing 303hp on a good day. There are a good handful of L67 V6s on this board that will eat you for breakfast... it's almost not worth the fuel lining up with you, but I'd waste it just so you would learn this valuable lesson.

2) Why would spending time on a hobbyone enjoys (like engine building, or modding, or plain and simple spinning wrenches) be a way to "ruin" your summer. I sure as heck had the time of my life doing 2 full tear downs, a full rebuild, porting, etc... and dropping the engine in. It definately "made" my summer, and cruising around in the fruits of my labour was well worth it.

3) You will definately have a hard time squeezing water out of a rock. It's a good thing we're talking about building up engines though, because water does not equal power, and rock does not equal engine... unless it comes out of a lawnmower. [8D]
i'm not changin my motor too much money and work. i love my car the way it is.. the only thing i might do is lower it.. that's it.. i've already added a new exhaust.. new head unit SHOULD be put in tomorrow.. i put new brake and gas pedals.. gotten tint the windows, and a billet grill it's comin along nicly.. also new 6 by 9 and 5 1/4 speakers.
if i where you i would get a 3400 top end or 00+ 3100 there big port heads and intakes compared to the small port stuff you have that alone will gain you 30-40 hp and can be had from a j/y for cheap you will need new gaskets and get the exhaust manifolds for the big ports too as they flow better with a good 2.5 system
you can get a under drive puley for around 100$ they are good for 5-10hp

I could really see your race against him too. "Why don't you take 5 lengths"
Thinking about it you actually might be able to give him 8 without a problem.

For someone with all the tools, but has never pulled an engine before- I would give it 2 weeks just to be safe. Someone who has done it before could probably pull it off in 2 or 3 full days. It bolts in, wiring is pretty much plug and play, and you have to make 1 axle, and buy some new hoses- its really nowhere near as tough as you try and make it sound.
My swap was the first time I had ever done one, and it took me just shy of 2 weeks (working ~35-40 hours/week at a job, and doing the swap at a leisurely place), and a lot of that was spent trying to get my 'mods' to work with my car (ie headers, etc). If I would've went with a stock or near stock swap, I probably could've pulled it off in maybe 3 or 4 days my first time through (and now there are more writeups specifically for the 5th gen L67 swap- so you'd know the pitfalls ahead of time).
But please, don't make false statements about something you haven't personally even done.

I'm sure some of that is due to the fact that there are fewer out there, and people are more scared to mod due to warranty- but right now the 3800s are running quicker in wbodys.
Not to mention- how do you suggest he gets a V8? A 5.3 swap into his 5th gen would be a much bigger PITA than the suggested L67 swap, and would be much more expensive (L67s are common as dirt in j/y's) and difficult to install.
The other option is to buy a 5.3 monte or GP, but maybe he doesn't want a huge car payment. I imagine all the 5.3 wbodys are still fairly expensive unless you find a high mileage one.

I want my car to be faster I know I need to add somethings.. Or do I have to do a engine swap when I get the money to do that with

Sounds like a money issue - if he wanted to go fast in the first place he would have bought a fast car. I love my MC, but they are heavy, seriously underpowered, and never were designed for drag racing. If I wanted to go faster, I'd put my money in a V-8 car, but not a new one. Can anyone say SS Camero, or mid-80's MC with a big block?
I've done a few mods to speed up my MC, but I wouldn't consider putting out several thousand dollars to try to get 300 hp. But - a thousand or so to get 240 - 250 hpout of my V-6 to complement the money I've put in the suspension is reasonable.

well said.. i bouht my car 4 what it is not what it can do.. who wants a v8 with $3.89 dollar gas? Kill it. I've done a lot of mods to my car, and it looks nice may not be fast, but it gets the job done.

For ~$1500 or so, an L67 swap would put you at 240hp/280tq, and with another thousand or so in basic bolt ons, you could put the thing in the 13s (as many GP owners do). I agree if you're going for an all out 10 second or quicker drag car that switching to a RWD platform would be more practical, but figure he's running high 16s right now- doing high 13s- dropping 3 full seconds for 3 grand isn't too bad IMO.
Not to mention, some times its nice to have something different too.
