disregard that, i was talking to two kens, the one i was getting is ok. Will i need a new carb linkage and PS hoses, since the V6 sits further back?

i honestly dont know about the linkage and the ps hose. my car always had a v8 even before the 400. im going to assume the ps will be fine. so now your going v8 again?

nice. all honesty anything that you would need to do the swap can be had at the junk yard for cheap. montes and malibus and el caminos were produced in high volume, and id be surprised if the b body stuff wouldnt work. i know some of the other gbodys came with sbcs in the later years 81+. so linkage, ps, radiator, stuff like that.

get on racingjunk.com its like craigslist for car guy, you can find good heads and stuff like that on there

So, picked up that block yesterday, casting numbers are:

Heads are matching 482624 with a 1 1208 below that
...
rear of block 3970010

on the rear in the bellhousing

H34 010
509 776

rt side of the block has a 010 on it too.

according to mortec that is either a 69 302 which im sure its not, a 327 most probably not either, or a 350 69-80 which it most definitely is. it doesnt say 2 or 4 bolt main but you have it there so im sure you know. being the older motor you have a 2 piece rear main seal and they didnt come with roller cam. still a a good for what you got it for. i would see if you could get a set of cheap heads, or since your not looking to get crazy with it just get a baby cam for it.

Picked up the motor the other day, and tore it apart, it didnt look real bad.

Looks like the head is cracked or the head gasket was leaking, gonna junk the heads anyway.

The engine spun freely and was really clean inside. The crank seems ok, not to scratched up.

Where on a Gm block is the VIN for the vehicle it came out of?

doesnt look to bad. you got a good deal on it. sucks about the heads, but it could be a blessing in disguise cause now it gives you a reason to upgrade. the junkyard is full of vortec equipped trucks and vans with good heads, but i would just spend the extra on a new set. if all is well after a rebuild kit and some heads you probably can get it all done for under a g. oh yeah i forgot to mention these guys but they used to have rebuild kits that you could pick your cam dont know if they still do it but heres a link. http://www.northernautoparts.com/ .on the rear flange of the block, on the drivers side near the oil filter pad, is a block location for some VIN codes. thats the only spot i know of. how was the cam in it? when i did mine some of the lobes were worn down and my rings just fell apart once i pulled the rods and pistons out of it. my crank also should signs of walking probably from launching the car so hard constantly. its funny the motor was beat to death but she never smoked, idled smooth, and would punish 5.0s all day.
