Engine swap (sorry guys, another one...)
I tried finding the answer to my question using the search feature, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Actually I have a few questions for you guys
.
I'm looking at buying an 84 MC SS and I know very, VERY little, about them, and first of all, is 3000 a fair deal for one with a body in pretty good condition, decent interior, with about 160k miles I believe. It runs and all, but I don't think it's the greatest, due to sitting in the garage for the past few years.
My next question would be, what are the best engine swap options? I would like to fit an LS1 or LS2, and I know LS1's fit, but what about 2's with it's tranny (can't remember what it is)? Also, does the t56 used with the LS1 fit just fine in the Monte Carlo? What all would be required for me to buy if I were to do this?
Sorry for all the questions guys, and thanks for any help.

HI 61` & Welcome to our MCF Family
First, do you plan on doing the work yourself ?
Are you mechanically inclined ?
Can you post pictures/history on the 4th Gen Monte that
you are looking at ?
What is your Mod Budget ?
There are many clean 4th Gen out there that already have
been converted with 350 ci +.
If U are considering the one in your post I suggest U
have a good mechanic check it out b-4 U buy.
Also use Google Search for infor on engine swaps.
Look 4ward to your answers, and I'm sure our Expert Member's
like Chad -Bump'in Monte will post/assist.
Also, would luv 2 C pic's.
Good Luck..
Below is a great site for 4th Gen Monte Infor

I don't plan on doing the work myself, but I do have a couple friends who just finished building a late 80's firebird from the ground up and are very mechanically inclined, and would love to get their hands dirty again while teaching me a thing or two.
I don't have pics or history of the car, but I will try and get some soon.
My mod budget is whatever I can sell my current car for
(2000 Honda Accord v6)
If it was me ( and i did say me), i would opt for the LS2 with the matching trans. There is so much that you can do with engine, its insane. As for the trans, your going to have a project anyways. So build yourself a new tunnel and go from there. Remember to get all the harnesses and PCM for the LS2.
I know that there is also a stand alone system for the LS2. If you want, i can call a resto shop thats building a 69 Camaro with the LS2. I can find out what trans is being used AND what brand is the stand alone PCM.
