Default Engine light came on

2002 SS 3800 Driving yesterday light came on. Went to O'Reillys put code reader on it said manifold pressure intake problem any ideas before I take her to shop tommarow is it safe to drive? Could it be the manifold gasket told these 3800 Chevys go bad. Thanks for any help Butch and Heartbeat.

Do you know what the exact code is? There are a few codes that would point to the MAP and/or throttle position sensor, but I don't think your problem is with the manifold gaskets. I would check for a loose/dirty connection at the MAP sensor and the vacuum supply line. Then (if you have a voltmeter) test the circuit. The positive probe goes to the brown or gray wire, and the negative probe goes to the black or orange/black wire. You should have 5 volts with the key on. If you don't get a voltage reading check and repair the wiring between the sensor and the PCM. If all that checks out okay test the MAP sensor. Reconnect the connector to the sensor and backprobe it with your voltmeter. The positive probe goes to the light green wire and the negative probe goes to engine ground. With the key on (not running) you should get a reading between 4 and 5 volts. Start the car and at idle your reading should be between .5 and 2 volts. If not, replace the MAP sensor. Doing this test will trigger the CEL but since yours is already on that's not a concern.

youll know it if its an upper intake issue....almost immediately....the eingine temp will sky rocket...and your motor (like) mine became a hydro water pump!...meaning the eingine filled with water from the water jackets of the upper intake.....mine had 100k on it when mine went...sounds like 03ssle has the best soulution...hope u find the problem and get it resolved...

Check all your vacuum lines, especially the one under the MAP sensor
