Had an inspection today at a muffler shop and they noticed that my EGR valve line is broken where it connects to the exhaust manifold. They also said I may have a cracked rear exhaust manifold. It looks like Dorman 598-202 EGR Line is the one I need. My concerns are what if this has been this way for a while? I also have a P0420 nagging code. I have already burned through one catalytic converter and am wondering if this will kill my cat if I don't get it replaced right away? The muffler guy said its like running the engine without the EGR valve basically? He said something about the "stud" was broken or something on it? I can see a gap from where that line fits onto the exhaust manifold. I got a buddy that will do the labor for me in his pole barn and says its a b*tch to do the exhaust manifold (if its cracked) but that its probably a weekend job?

Any tips or advice on this? Other than the obvious of "fix it". LOL

 

So is there any way this would have caused my P0420 code? Would there also be an EGR valve code thrown because of the bad line?
